Are You Or Someone You Know The Star Of A Fake Porn Movie?

Just when you think the criminal element can’t sink any lower—they do. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has advanced to the point that criminals are now able to near-seamlessly attach anyone’s face onto existing porn movies creating the ultimate click-bait!

As a recent KnowBe4‘s security blog post mentions, for a long time criminals using Photoshop were able to put anyone’s face on a nude body, but AI has now made it possible to do so using video. To add insult to injury, criminals can develop apps to make it possible for anyone, even the technology-challenged, to create very convincing videos.

Unfortunately, the hacker’s job has been made easier by the posting of all those pictures on social media creating a treasure trove of images that can be hijacked to create fake-porn videos of unsuspecting, innocent people.

Celebrities may be the favorite targets now, but the masses may soon bear the brunt as criminals seek to “weaponize” and perfect the use of AI in fake porn movies.

Here’s how criminals will initially use it: they’ll host short mass-generated fake-porn videos using social media images on underground sites seeded with Exploit Kits in advance of spear-phishing campaigns. Once the target clicks on the image or link in a SPAM email to view the video—they become a victim.

Then, it will evolve: It’s not too difficult to think of other ways criminals will use this new technology. Blackmail and extortion come easily to mind. How about sending a spear-phishing email to a high-value target with a fake-porn video of a family member and demand a lot of money to avoid its release?

And, our lives will become exponentially harder on the net: Think of the damage an internet troll can wreak on a person’s life using this technology to damage reputations, cyber-bully innocent people, etc.?

For many years experts (including us) have warned readers against posting so many pictures of themselves, family and friends on social media. Once fake porn goes mainstream, a lot of people are going to regret not taking the advice.

If you post a lot of personal pictures of yourself and family members on social media—STOP. If you have children that do—talk to them and ask them to STOP. It’s that serious.

If one of these inappropriate phishing emails makes it to your inbox: DO NOT CLICK on anything in the email and delete it immediately.
